1. To make your computer look nice.Create a folder somewhere in your system and drag the shortcuts from the start menu and place it in the folder( say drag norton antivirus from start menu to a folder called security also similarly antispyware etc.,)
and remove all the programs listed in the start menu .. This would shorten the size of all programs and also you will be able to find the applications easily.

2. To speed up the launching of Photoshop, add ~(Tilde) in front of those plugins which you would not use much in the plugins folder present in the installed directory....When you need the plugins remove the tilde...

1. Hide files in Jpeg image --Keep Your files secret in a different way --  
Create a folder of  any name in a location of your choice..
Copy a jpg file and a file of any format to the created folder..
Convert the file in to a rar file or zip file....
now in command prompt type the following command
c:\folder name  /b  picturename.jpg+filename.rar newname.jpg
{go to the "folder name" by using "cd foldername" command in command prompt, picturename is the name of the picture file and filename is the name of the rar file and newname is the name you need to give for the created jpg file}
1file copied will be displayed...
now delete other files from the folder other than newname.jpg
now if you double click the picture file it will open as a normal jpg file
but if you open the jpg file using winrar or winzip it would show the file stored inside the rar file too..

While on the Desktop or with the Explorer, press F3 to start the search
Click Options / Save Results

After the search select File / Save Search
An icon will be placed on the desktop.

2.Rename a Series of Files(A simple but often forgotten tip):
Photos from your digital camera, they often have unrecognizable seies of numbers or names. You can rename several similar files at once following this procedure. This also works for renaming other types of files.
1.Open the folder containing files that you want to rename.
2.Select the files you want to rename.
3.On the File menu, click Rename.
4.Type the new name, and then press ENTER.

1. To improve the maximum utilization of the virtual memory alloted, specify the minimum and maximum level for the same value. This is done by rt clicking mycomputer and select advanced tab and under performance, select settings and in advanced tab change the initial and maximum values to the same size under virtual memory...

2. To speed up the opening of My computer -- Generally while opening My computer, the system searches for any network folders.So uncheck this option(1st option)in folder options,if you do not have any shared folders.

1. Do you use Internet Explorer 7..Then have you noticed that "Temporary Internet Files" folder is not present in its location at local settings.. however you can delete the contents in them using internet options from tools menu of IE. If you need to delete the contents manually use the run command and give the exact location say
(c):\Documents and Settings\Administrator.(name)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files [in the above path those within braces change according to your computer] or create a short cut for it to use in run command by rt clicking my computer, go to advanced tab-click environmental variables button, then add a new name say "tmp" in User variables for administrator.Now you can reach the folder by typing "%tmp%" in run command..

2. If you do not know the basic settings necessary to keep the system safe.. use the following application -- SafeXP

Another tip to speed up startup

Are you a Fonts Freak....
Then that might be the reason for extended startup time...
Create a folder say"FONTS"wherever you need in your syste,,,
Go to fonts folder in appearances in control panel..
Select all the fonts and drag and drop in the "FONTS" folder you just created..
System will become unstable for a few seconds..
do not worry..
Xp would recover immediately by placing the needed fonts again...
But remember to install the fonts such as Times New roman and whatever fonts you need other than the basic ones installed by XP by dragging and dropping them back in to the fonts folder in control panel
This greatly reduces startup time

Restart in a second

Probably you know this..
Just thought to emphasize it..
If yur system hangs donot press the reset button...
There is an option to restart immediately..
Go to task manager ctrl+alt+del under processes choose explorer.exe and press end process...
Your desktop icons, status bar etc, will disappear..
do not panic..
under files in task manager click new tastk and type explorer
done your system is back again in its perfect shape..

Dont want additional screensavers

what will you do?
you would say delete *.scr files from system32 folder under windows folder...
correct but also remember the following 2 points..
1. before deleting the scr file choose the screensaver you want to be present in your pc from rt clicking the desktop...
2. also delete the .scr files from dllcache folder in system32 under windows folder to completely remove the screensavers..
After restarting you would find only the screensavers you chose to have... in screensaver tab under display properties (rt click desktop)

Increase pc security

Windows media player might try to connect to the internet...
If you do not have firewall.. use the following steps..
in tools--> options-->under players uncheck connect to internet
and also
tools-->options-->under library, uncheck retrieve additional information..

Applications as and when open...fills the prefetch folder..so cleaning it often once in a month reduces boot time..

an alternative for reading pdf files is a free software called

A lot of disk space is also saved...
But to create pdf files..(do u really need it?)... then ok

TO OPEN PDF FILES IN OPERA

Find the nppdf32.dll in the reader folder after installation
 adobe reader...
and paste it in plugins folder of opera installation folder
 in program files
now go to tools preferences downloads in opera
in mime type select application/pdf and edit
select the radio for use plugin and select the dll file..
it is done.....
